No Such Thing as a “Dumb Question!”

We truly want to stress that you can all us anytime, from any place, about anything (guitar-related that is)!  Seriously, we will try to answer any question you may have.  Let us illustrate with a "true story" example that happened to one of our partners a long time ago, in a galaxy far, far away . . .

One day when I was working part-time at a global guitar retail chain that will heretofore remain … unnamed .. I had middle-aged man approach me with that “deer in the headlights” look. He truly seemed confused, looking at the wall of guitars in front of him, he looked around as if to get the nerve up to ask me, and then … he did it.  He bravely said … “Can I ask you a question?”  I responded … “of course, how can I help you.” The gentleman proceeded to ask me, “These things that run the length of this part of the guitar … what are they … exactly?  I was the one looking around now – surely I must be on candid camera or something!  Was this a joke?  How could anyone not know what guitar STRINGS, are?  I cynically responded, “Ah, you mean … these?”  “Yes,” the man said, waiting with baited breath for my response.  Ah, um … they’re..ah, st-r-riings, strings, guitar strings.  “Oh,” the gentleman said, “guitar strings, hmmmmmmm.”  “What are they for?” – he asked next.  Confronted with an interesting problem (was this guy on the level, or a prankster), I timidly replied:  “They are the actual material that creates the sound of the instrument.”  You could tell that he felt a big sense of relief, smiled as he realized what these things were for, thanked me, and continued on his merry way.  I had been guilty of the "dumb question" syndrome.  But I felt good that I didn’t react like many people may have.

Now, if you call us and ask us “what is this small triangular piece of plastic and what is it used for,” we’ll hang up on you (j/k)!!!
